Heinrich Engelhard Steinweg-Founder

Born: Wolfshagen Village, Lower Saxony, Germany in 1797

Settled in U,S, at age 53. Prior to that time, his company made pianos in Germany as Steinweg. When he came to NYC his operations continued on 85 Varick St.- Manhattan. Moved to larger quarters in Manhattan eventually settled in Astoria, Queens an in1864, Steinweg and family anglicised their name to Steinway. Steinway and Sons.

Mr. Steinway came to the U.S. with his wife and nine children and the Queens landmark still exist with their descendants still involved.
